Mary Ann Sabo brings nearly two decades of professional experience in public relations and journalism to her role as principal and founder of Sabo Public Relations. Since launching SPR in January 2003, she has provided strategic communication, public relations and issues management support to more than three-dozen clients throughout Michigan and in Illinois, Ohio and South Carolina. She partners with clients to better understand their business goals before developing a tailored communications plan to fit their needs – and their budgets.
Mary Ann not only develops the strategy, she implements it – and that means clients receive a combination of senior-level skill and client-focused service at a price large agencies just can’t match. She believes that effective public relations should deliver a tangible return on a company’s investment.
Prior to moving full time into public relations, Mary Ann was an award-winning business reporter for The Grand Rapids Press, one of the largest daily newspapers in Michigan. Additionally, Mary Ann spent two years as a business columnist for The Chicago Tribune and currently writes a monthly column on family business issues for The Grand Rapids Business Journal.
Mary Ann also spent more than a decade teaching journalism, public relations, corporate communications and technical writing at colleges and universities in Michigan, Ohio and North Carolina, including a year teaching journalism in Romania as a Fulbright professor. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in communications from the University of Tennessee and a master of arts degree in English from The Ohio State University. A native of New York, she now makes her home in Grand Rapids.
